Sutton Oaks Academy has teamed up with the east side Aguilars FC, a soccer organization located on the east side of San Antonio. Partnering with the San Antonio FC and through private donations, SOA provided 8 season tickets to the San Antonio FC. In addition to the tickets, the Aguilars FC have been able to attend San Antonio FC practices and have a SA FC team member visit their practices.
The Aguilars FC organization has been a phenomenal collaborator, bringing soccer to more and more east side residents. Whole families are involved, it is great to see families come together, cook, eat and play together.
We look forward to building our relationship with the Aguilar FC and will be posting updates here, so stay tuned!
On April 8th, in collaboration with the Wal Mart, The University of Incarnate Word and Franklin Management, Sutton Oaks Academy co-hosted a Health Fair and Field Day at Woodword Park on the east side of San Antonio, Tx.
The Health fair included glucose, blood pressure and eye exams. The University of Incarnate Word’s nursing, optometry and pharmacy schools did a great job of providing a welcoming space for residents of San Antonio.
The field day was organized and facilitated by the University of Incarnate Word’s School of Physical Therapy. They provided various stations where participants could learn about various sports such as basketball, baseball, football, kickball, soccer and volleyball.
Our turnout was great and we cannot thank all the volunteers who showed up enough. We look forward to the next one so stay tuned!
Having officially launched in January of 2017 our first ever collaboration as Sutton Oaks Academy 501 c3 was with Urban Strategies. We developed a 6 week pilot after school program to be held at Wheatley Community School on the east side of San Antonio.
Teaming up with Spare Parts, San Antonio Sound Garden and joey lopez phd, our after school programing consisted of art, music and technology programing that successfully engaged the children at Wheatley Community School.
With hands on activities that ranged from art reuse, beat making and video production, Sutton Oaks Academy hopes to take it’s experience with the pilot and bring more programing to the greater San Antonio area.
To get an idea of what we accomplished, check out the photos and video below:
San Antonio Sound Garden offered multiple workshops teaching children about music production. Edwin Stephens of SASG worked with the students giving them hands on experiences using the keyboard to create music and recording them singing and rapping to create their own music.
